Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

QUESTION:

With a Mac or iMac running OS 8.6/9.x, I am getting an error message "The remote side is not responding properly" when trying to connect.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION(S):

High levels of noise on the phone line can cause this error and you will need to change the modem to use the v.34 protocol.

  1. From the Apple menu, click Control Panels, and choose Modem.

  2. Click the arrow box on the Modem pop-up list and choose Apple Internal 56k Modem (v.34). If Apple Internal 56k Modem (v.34) is not available, select iMac Internal 56k (v.34 Only).

  3. Close the Modem window and click the Save button.

  4. After setting your modem to use the v.34 protocol, you should be able to connect successfully.
